On May 22, 2012, all of our tenth grade students will be taking a career exploration program at school. The program, the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Career Exploration Program (ASVAB), is one of the most widely used career exploration tools in use today. It helps students learn more about themselves and the world of work. It can identify potentially satisfying career goals that our counselors can assist students in attaining.

Given the present economic climate and the ever changing workforce needs, having our students complete the ASVAB and provide each of them, and the school, with the aptitude and interest information will assist us greatly as we help each student plan post secondary goals. Research has shown that students who participate in the ASVAB experience less career indecision, enjoy greater confidence in making career decisions, and consider more thoughtfully their options than do students who do not participate.

This ASVAB is being provided to our school through an education initiative by the U.S. Department of Defense.  Please be assured that no student information will be forwarded to the military. Military personnel, such as recruiters, are not allowed to access this information without you providing your informed, written consent. The names and demographic information of students, and their results on the ASVAB go directly to the school, no one else.

I encourage all students to be present and on time on May 22, 2012, so that everyone will have an opportunity to complete this program and have access to information that can positively impact post secondary college/career decisions.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact my office.
