The annual Honor Society Dinner will take place at 6:30 PM on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at the Ancient Order of the Hibernians located on Second St., in South Amboy. We will be celebrating the newly inducted members as well as our graduates for the National Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, and National Art Honor Society. Please remember to dress appropriately (no jeans) for this special evening. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Gadomski.

Evening of Excellence:

April 25, 2012

Congratulations to all the newly inducted National Junior Honor Society members! A big thanks goes out to all the Board of Education members, administration, Honored Educators, staff, parents and inductees who made last night’s “Evening of Excellence” possible. The ceremony last night was a huge success and would not be possible without everyone’s help. Thank you to the South Amboy PTO for your help with the refreshments.

April News:

April 2, 2012

At our brief meeting after school on April 2, 2012, Ms. Gadomski assigned the current members of the NJHS new inductees to create tapping poems for. The poems should be no more than 2-3 lines and should rhyme. If you need help or are not sure what to do, see Ms. Gadomski. The Tapping Ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 19, 2012 during periods 7 & 8.

Additionally, please make sure you listen to announcements in the morning for further updates or changes.

Have a safe and happy spring break!

Scholastic Book Fair:

March 15, 2012

It’s that time of year again!

The annual Scholastic Book Fair will be taking place starting Wednesday, March 28, 2012 to Tuesday, April 23, 2012. Members of the National Junior Honor Society will be assisting Mr. Ghezzi during this fantastic event. The schedule with the names of the members who will be working this event can be found in the Media Center, or see either Mr. Ghezzi or Ms. Gadomski. If there are any scheduling conflicts or a member is unable to work the bookfair a certain day, it is the member’s responsibility to let Mr. Ghezzi know. Community service hours can be obtained for 9th graders working this event, so make sure you get your service log signed by Mr. Ghezzi or Ms. Gadomski.

As the end of the year approaches, there will be a lot more news coming forth. Please check back often.

Looking ahead, the Tapping Ceremony for new NJHS members will take place on April 19, 2012 during 7th and 8th period. The Induction Ceremony for the NJHS will be taking place on April 24, 2012. All members are asked to attend this event. Our last event for this year, the Honor Society Dinner, will be held on May 17, 2012 at the Ancient Order of the Hibernians.

All dates are tentative. Any questions, see Ms. Gadomski.

February Meeting:

February 9, 2012

Our meeting for this month took place after school on February 9, 2012. Attendance for this meeting was great! Our campaign to raise money for the Sayreville Pet Adoption Center has began. We already have beautiful kitty/puppy pictures to decorate our dining room with. If you are interested in purchasing a kitty or puppy picture to decorate, please see any NJHS member or Ms. Gadomski in room 435 with your $1.00 donation. 100% of the money raised will go directly to the Sayreville Pet Adoption Center.

In addition, fundraising packets for Joe Corbi’s Pizza Sales were given out at the meeting. All money and orders are due on February 29, 2012. The money we receive from this fundraiser will go towards the Honor Society Dinner in May. Details for that event will be posted in the near future.

The donation drive for the Sayreville Pet Adoption Center was a huge success! We were able to donate a van load of pet food and supplies on January 26, 2012. A big thanks goes out to everyone in the community that has donated supplies to our cause. We have received a very thoughtful thank-you note from the director of the shelter.

January News:

January 25, 2012

Happy New Year!

Here’s the latest from our January 25th meeting:

  • The “Animal Shelter Donation Drive” has been a huge success! Thank you to all the NJHS members, parents, staff, and members of the community that have donated to our cause. We have decided to continue to help our furry friends by selling small postcards (of a cat or dog) during all lunch periods for a $1.00 donation. The postcards can then be decorated and will be hung up around the cafeteria. Let’s see if we can get the postcards around the whole room!
  • Our second fundraiser will be taking place shortly. We will be selling Joe Corbi’s Pizza Kits along with the Class of 2014. See any NJHS member, Ms. Gadomski, or Ms. Haag if you are interested in purchasing any items.
  • Interviews for new members in the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades will be taking place towards the end of February.
  • We are already halfway through the year! With that in mind, I am reminding the NJHS members that an overall average of 92 or above is needed for the first semester in order to maintain membership. Please keep in mind that conduct and behavior are also an integral part of the NJHS. Additionally, those members who have not been attending our monthly meetings on a regular basis (and have not been excused from that meeting) will be receiving warning letters. Any questions or concerns, please see Ms. Gadomski.

Keep checking back for future news!

December Meeting:

December 14, 2011

At our December 14, 2011 meeting, Ms. Gadomski had a few items to remind members:

  1. We are still in need of items to donate to our local animal shelters. We will be collecting items up until January 20, 2012. Items may be dropped off to Ms. Gadomski in the middle/high school or Mrs. Gundrum in the elementary school.
  2. Attendance to our monthly meeting is important! If there is a conflict with another activity or you cannot make it, please make sure you see Ms. Gadomski to get the information that was discussed at the meeting.
  3. Ms. Delongis and Ms. Gadomski would like to ask the NHS and NJHS members to create a design that will be featured on t-shirts that will be worn at the next MSG Varsity Challenge competition. Submissions may be given to Ms. Gadomski by December 23, 2011.

Don’t forget to keep checking our page for further updates. Have a great holiday and a Happy New Year!
