National Honor Society

The members who attended the trip to the Franklin Institute yesterday had a great time!  Tyler and Taylor  were brave enough to ride the sky bike, and we all enjoyed the IMAX film- even though some of us got a little dizzy. ;)   My only regret is that some members decided not to join us     Thanks again to Mrs. Hathcock for chaperoning and of course, thanks to the students who, once again, represented South Amboy High School admirably!

Our annual Honor Society Dinner is next Thursday, May 17 at the Ancient Order of Hibernians Hall.  I hope all members can attend as we celebrate all of you and your accomplishments as well as recognize our departing seniors.  Permission slips are due back to me by this Friday, May 11.  If you need another permission slip, stop by the guidance office.

Today our newest members will be tapped into NHS.  The Induction Ceremony will take place on Tuesday, April 24 at 6:30pm in the Middle/High School theater.  We are looking forward to welcoming all new members.  Congratulations!!

A big thanks go out to all involved in helping make our volleyball tournament a success.  Eight teams fought valiantly to win the title of champion.  Faculty, firefighters, and students were fierce competitors, but in the end, the alumni team led by Tom Szatkowski (class of ’06) who called themselves the Rowdy Roosters were victorious.   They were generous in donating their entrance fee to NHS rather than accepting it back as the winner normally does.  Thanks Tom, Ryan, Derek, Tim and William!  All proceeds from the evening will be put into the NHS scholarship.

We are having our annual volleyball tournament this Thursday, March 22 at 6 PM.  We have students, faculty, alumni and community members playing.  It’s not too late to join the fun.  Get a team together of 6-10 people and for a $50 entrance fee, you can be part of the action.  If you don’t want to play, come watch and root for your favorites.  Admission is only $2.  Hope to see you there!

Reminder that we have our monthly meeting tomorrow morning, 3/14 at 7:10 in the Media Center.  Permission slips are due for anyone planning on cheering on our team in the next round of competition at MSG Varsity studios.  The bus will be leaving the high school at 9 am on Thursday.  Pack a snack because we could be in the city as late as 4:30 and will not be able to leave the studio.  Remember to wear South Amboy HS colors/apparel.  GO TEAM!!! 

Once again the members of the NHS made South Amboy proud during the MSG Varsity Challenge competition in New York City.  All of the students conducted themselves in a mature, respectful manner and we all had a wonderful time.  Tune into MSG Varsity on Tuesday, April 3 at 6:30 pm to watch South Amboy compete against Mahwah.

We’re all excited for round 2 of the MSG Varsity The Challenge competition!  The bus leaves the high school on Wednesday at 8 a.m. sharp!  Remember to wear purple and gold or anything related to SAHS.  Also, bring something to eat because if our team wins round 2, we’ll be staying to tape round 3.  Good luck Taylor, Nick, Michael and Tyler!  We’re so proud of you! 

Reminder!  The permission slip  and $5 for our February 29 trip to MSG Varsity Studios is due by 2/21.  See Patricia to hand in your money and paperwork.  If you have any questions, come see me.

Our next NHS meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 8.  We will be finalizing plans for our return to the MSG Varsity studios for Round 2 of The Challenge on Feb. 29  The meeting starts at 7:10 am…please be on time! 

Members of the NHS and Junior NHS had a great time on Tuesday at the MSG Varsity Studios watching our team compete with Parsippany.  It was an exciting day for everyone and I am very proud of all the students who came on the trip.  Thanks to Ms. Gadomski for assisting and for the parents, family members and friends who came to cheer on South Amboy!  The show will air on MSG Varsity on January 5, 2012 at 6:30 pm with encore episodes broadcast on News 12 NJ on Saturdays and Sundays at 6:30.  Tune in to see how South Amboy performed!
